Exciting news. The two halves of my long-time involvement with Google are coming together in a deliberate collision. As you may know Squared is the immersive learning programme initiated to 'empower today’s and tomorrow’s leaders to drive the industry [r]evolution'. It's mainly focused on the young talent in our industry so this next Firestarters event is being guest curated by young Squared alumni. For their theme, they have decided to focus on the question of how the industry should define creativity which is a pretty good subject IMHO.

The event, titled "Creativity is not a department", will be held at Google Campus at 6.00pm on 18/7. We have some excellent speakers lined up including 72 and Sunny, David WIlding from PHD and Ann Wixley, Creative Director at OMD UK. I have some guest passes to give away to readers of this blog so if you'd like one just drop me a note or leave a comment (first come, first served).

Meanwhile the latest Squared class, 26 young client-side marketeers from 22 companies, have launched their State of the Industry Report.

Squared

It's the result of conversations with 48 industry leaders from businesses as diverse as L’Oreal, Pizza Hut, Fiat, Cancer Research UK, and the report delves into the challenges of the degree and rapidity of change brought by the ever-evolving digital landscape. As always, it makes for a good read.

    There is a lot to be learnt on presentation skills here. This document is a real struggle to read either on the web or BlueReader. Perhaps a bit more digital might help as the clarity of the text leaves something to be desired and I am not sure the report has been properly edited. A shame because it has some good points to make – well at least in the first two pages I survived!
    So am I customer-side? Is that the problem? Clients get delivered fancy display but miss the substance because in actual fact they do not read documents presented by marketeers?

    Im liking the focus on marketing as a power for good, as growing up we always felt it was Machiavellian to talk of ‘consumers’ as recently blogged about by Dan Burgess’ in his Post of the Month for June.
    The new report for industry by Squared that there is #nodigital is an argument Ive yet to have encountered, and I must admit I am hostile being a recent attendee. lol Perfect timing as usual!
    Thanks for the tickets and it’s been a pleasure to take your dictation – nice talk. Love the Burberry stuff (Kisses is quite amazing) and well worth cramming it all in at the end. Well worked.
    Look forward to seeing the alumni at the show 🙂
