Green is the colour

Ms_1  Following John Grant’s posts on green issues and brand niceness, interesting to note M & S’s new move to invest £200m over the next 5 years to become more environmentally friendly. The impressive thing about this is that it seems to be pervading all areas of their business, from how energy efficient their stores are, to packaging and food air miles. Interesting also that this is heavily tied in with other CSR initiatives such as fairtrade, healthy eating, and work placements for ‘disadvantaged individuals’. Shame that it is somewhat buried on their website but you have to applaud their nouse – this is exactly where M&S should be on issues like this. ‘This is deliberately ambitous’ said Stuart Rose ‘…doing anything less is not an option.’

I wonder how long it will be before companies (and retailers may just be the tip) start to look out of sync and out of date if they are not publicly marketing their green credentials?

Good point – companies all claim to be green when they’re not! What would be nice with M&S though, would be to see less packaging.
    Less is more!

Indeed. They have apparently committed to be carbon neutral in five years
