For those that love their alternative music, the NME have just compiled their list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems of all time. It’s a little Oasis-heavy for my liking (apart from the legendary ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ of-course), but there’s some real corkers in there including stuff I haven’t heard in a long time (like Dinosaur Jr’s ‘Freak Scene’). You can access the list online here, and rate them yourselves. Since the original list was published in print, the internet voting has updated the top ten – right now there’s right royal ding-dong going on for the top spot between ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ (Joy Division), Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve), and Last Nite (The Strokes). Being a sad throwback, my vote has gone with the incomparable Joy Division.
