Quirky little insight I read over the weekend…
What is the average number of words spoken by a person in a day? Take a guess – 5,000? 10,000? Work done by James Pennebaker of the University of Texas using small devices to record snippets of conversation at regular intervals throughout the day has given us the answer. Turns out it’s more like 16,000 (which surprised me). Also turns out there was no difference between the amount of words spoken by men and women, dispelling the myth that women are more talkative than men.
There was however, a huge variation between personality types (the scale of which also surprised me). Introverts typically speak as few as 8,000 words a day compared to a whopping 24,000 words a day that typically pass the lips of more extroverted people.
