Bruce Lee Plays Ping Pong

Stan and I have been twittering already about this this morning (yes, BrandDNA is on twitter at last!) but I'm posting it too because I love it.

But it’s not REALLY Bruce Lee is it ?
So it’s not REALLY Bruce Lee, and it’s got nothing to do with a ‘phone.
OK – I agree it’s cool – and that merits it’s inclusion on a blog – but this IS a blog about advertising and stuff and so my question remains – has it worked ? What was the point ? To make Nokia N96 look cool and so more people to buy it ? To add to some intangible sense of brand community – ness that exists around priviliged users / owners of the ‘phone ?
Am I just reading more into this that I need to ?

Reminds me a bit of some of the discussion around cadbury gorilla. I like it as an idea and as an execution and that’s why I stuck it up – but then maybe not every ad has to be feature driven anyway. No idea whether it worked. Still cool though.

OK. Reminds me about the sort of conversation you could have with half of what adworld spits out I would suggest.
    Oooh. Listen to me.

I don’t think we should read too much into why we like stuff. If you deconstruct a joke it stops being funny. This just works, and so shouldn’t matter whether it was made on a brand’s behalf.

I’m not interested in why I LIKE it – I’m interested in why nokia decided to MAKE it.
Presumably it matters to NOKIA why it works and what ‘works’ means to them here ?
