I'm delighted to officially announce the launch of my new book that deals with the intersection of business transformation and organisational agility: Agile Transformation – Structures, Processes and Mindsets for the Digital Age. When I wrote the first book it was something of a cathartic experience for me, and this one has been no different. At the time there was lots of information out there about the why of digital transformation but precious little about the how. And I'm happy to say that it's been very successful.
So why write a second book? Put simply – because the journey has only just begun. It's my belief that traditional approaches to organisational structures, processes and cultures are no longer fit for purpose in a digital-empowered world. Disruptive, networked technologies have enabled dramatically different competitive and scaling dynamics but also brought with them rapidly changing contexts and heightened unpredictability for businesses of all kinds. Yet many companies still look at business and digital transformation as a journey from A to B. Many still pursue rigid, linear change processes that are doomed to fail, or chase shiny technology rather than empowering their people to drive lasting change. Others dabble with optimising outdated ways of working without ever really changing the fabric of how the organisation works or building the culture that can genuinely make a difference.
Agile Transformation builds from my first book but goes much further in to structures, leadership mindsets and culture. It sets out a blueprint for a different type of organisation which itself is characterised by continuous change and adaptability. It provides a roadmap for reinventing organisational design, strategies, operations, culture and behaviour to succeed in the digital age. Like the first book, it is designed to be packed full of practical advice covering everything from why new operating models are needed, how to apply agile principles at scale, how to build and engage high performing teams for change, develop fast and focused high-velocity decision making, build momentum for change, and ensure that leadership behaviours and organisational culture catalyse true business agility. It features case-studies from a wide range of businesses including Amazon, Netflix, Vodafone, and ANZ Bank and includes useful frameworks for all businesses wanting to effectively compete in the new world of work.
I'm really excited about it and as always, eager to know what you think. The book is published in the UK on October 3rd, and in the US on October 28th. You can pre-order Agile Transformation via Kogan Page the publisher or via Amazon. There's also an email list where I'll be sharing periodic updates and exclusive content which you can sign up for here.
