I recently recorded some short videos with my publisher to introduce some of the big themes that I write about in my book Agile Transformation: Structures, Processes and Mindsets for the Digital Age. I thought it would be useful to bring them together here. The first one focuses on changing organisational contexts and the need to combine vision and direction with rapid learning and adaptation – most businesses have grown up in a very different age where advantage came from scaled efficiency, but the impact of technological change and shifting scaling dynamics requires a wholly different approach to structures and culture.
The second short film deals with scaling agile principles across large businesses in informed and appropriate ways. It's easy to talk about how companies need to embed continuous innovation but the reality of transformation means managing business as usual whilst reinventing the business of the future. This requires new structures but also a culture that enables scaled application of key practices and principles.
The third film talks about the need to break down organisational silos, catalyse horizontal collaboration, and the role of small, multi-disciplinary teams as the engine of change and adaptation. Easy to talk about of-course, but there is very little written about how to scale this approach, and that's really what the book is about.
