Murray

I was so upset to learn today that Murray Calder had passed. I met Murray a few times – a couple when he came along to Google Firestarters events, and then again when he invited me to speak at a Mediacom Edinburgh event that he was putting on in his role as CSO there. Recently he'd been fighting Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and the spirit and the fortitude that he showed over this time was a true inspiration to everyone. I can't quite find the words to express how much I admired his ever-present courage and positivity, which were evident in all that he so generously shared, not least on Twitter, his Isolated Talk, and his brilliant Spotify playlists. Sera Holland and Ben Malbon recently started a fundraiser in support of Murray and in aid of Maggie's Centres which has far exceeded it's initial target – anyone can donate but also add a track to what Nicola Kemp has called 'arguably the advertising industry’s greatest ever playlist'. It's a fitting tribute and he'll be much missed.
